Intelliden Corp of Colorado Springs, a supplier of networking operating software on which more than 30 patents are pending, announced that its Intelliden R-Series software suite has been successfully integrated with HP OpenView, thus enabling HP customers to increase network control, automate service management, improve network security, define business policy and increase optimization across their IP infrastructures.
The R-Series software suite consists of four intelligent networking product pillars: Auditing and Reporting. Configuration and Control. Provisioning and Activation. Security Management.
By abstracting the knowledge of every device and importing it into the Intelliden directory, the software is able to automate configuration requirements, accelerate service activation, increase network security, reduce operational costs and improve resource optimisation - a business-driven approach described by Intelliden as 'Intelligent Networking'.
The R-Series suite links network and IT resources with business priorities and provides identification, analysis and resolution of systems and networking issues that can threaten the availability, security, provisioning and compliancy of business-critical network devices and notify users, groups and other applications about device and network changes, while also identifying who did what to the network. Notably Intelliden said its software is able to prevent manual errors and intelligently roll back to an earlier configuration with a few keystrokes.
XML Schema Definition are used to validate all commands before they are actually entered into the network.
The Intelliden announcement quoted an analysis by Rich Ptak, of Ptak, Noel & Associates, who said: "It's important to realize that network management platforms only alert companies to the fact that there is a problem with the network; they don't actually fix anything". "In most cases an alert initiates action - tasking an engineer to manually resolve the problem". "Unfortunately, since that engineer lacks full network visibility, any changes usually generate more errors. New error symptoms are then detected by the fault management system and the cycle begins again". "By using the Intelliden R-Series, HP customers can now perform automated, end-to-end service and configuration management of routers, switches, optics and firewalls. When they detect a router, switch, optical or firewall problem, they can bring the device back online via the Intelliden R-Series".
The Intelliden announcement noted specifically that from the HP OpenView console, a customer has access to the last five configuration changes made, real-time interrogation of the network resource, intelligent rollback and the ability to import and manage new resources, as well as direct access into the Intelliden R-Series platform for more detailed control, change management and analysis capabilities driven by the organization's business policies.
In summary, the announcement quoted Chris Turner, Intelliden VP of sales, as saying, "This is an important integration achievement for businesses and government organizations managing dynamic, adaptive IP infrastructures, because they can now leverage HP OpenView to tame their unwieldy IP networks via Intelliden's policy-based networking software".
