Santur Corp, of Fremont, a vertically integrated manufacturer of high-performance tunable lasers, announced the capability of 25 Ghz channel spacing in its widely tunable laser products.
Santur noted that the feature was now available for sampling in Santur's TL1010-C product that provides 10mW of tunability across the C-band, and would additionally be available in subsequent 20mW and L-band products. The combination of 36nm of tunability with 25 GHz channel spacings now allows access to 180 channels across the C-band.
Santur said that in combination with an external modulator, the TL1010-C device is ideally suited for use in a wide variety of DWDM systems offered by network providers.
The company was founded in November 2000 by VP of Engineering Bardia Pezeshki, described as the owner of numerous patents, including the first for micromechanically tunable VCSELs. Santur received initial funding of $20 million in February 2001 from Sequoia Capital and Menlo Ventures, and $10 million of lease financing in June 2001 from Lighthouse Capital.
